Count it All Joy

Count it All Joy

Jamess 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Bring, oh Lord, what trials may come.  Bring the rain, the difficulties, and the pains of this temporary life.  When my faith shall undulate, Lord, and I fall short of your upward call, refine in me steadfastness of faith.

How do we count trials as joy?  What is this joy we are encouraged to have when we face the times of life wrought with pain or suffering? Our hope, and therefore joy, shall be found in Christ who, unlike circumstance, remains constant.  Our happiness may wax and wane as situations come and go, but our joy is in Christ, Savior of our very souls.  We have been bought with a price and have received as an unearned gift, eternal life.  For the redeemed, what can separate is from Christ, and therefore our hope and joy?
Romans 8:38-39 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Therefore, dear brother, dear sister, when you face the trials of the day, take heart.  We serve a Lord who is bigger than the trial, who crossed time and eternity for the sake of our very souls.  If you allow it, the trials you face today will produce the steadfastness required for the test tomorrow.

Psalm 35:27 Let those who delight in my righteousness shout for joy and be glad and say evermore, “Great is the LORD, who delights in the welfare of his servant!”
